WELCA

Purpose Statement

As a community of women

created in the image of God,

called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and

empowered by the Holy Spirit,

we commit ourselves to

grow in faith,

affirm our gifts,

support one another in our callings,

engage in ministry and action, and

promote healing and wholeness

in the church,

the society, and

the world.

Mission Statement
To mobilize women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ.

GROWTH

To provide a variety of learning experiences that strengthen each woman as a whole person, develop her potential, and equip her for ministry.

COMMUNITY

To enable each woman to value herself and others as created in God’s image and redeemed through Christ; and to build up and celebrate relationships which are global, diverse, and interdependent.

ACTION

To enable women to articulate and act upon their faith as Disciples of Christ in all areas of life.

Our Symbol

Our symbol with the cross, water, and a water lily - identifies the Women of the ELCA as children of God; baptized, forgiven, adopted into God’s family. It is a reminder of the growth, beauty, and vitality that rises out of that life-giving baptismal water. It is also a reminder to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)

What is a Bible Study All About?

“Whenever two or three are GATHERED in my name, I am there among them.”      Matthew 18:20

Bible Studies are each as unique, creative and different as the person planning and the women attending. They seek to experience the presence of God during their time together.

CORE elements of an effective Bible Study are:

SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE…....COMMUNITY......BE JOYFUL.......BE CREATIVE

LET THE HOLY SPIRIT LEAD

SUGGESTIONS:

  • Use all types of prayer, music, art, movement, current events, books, DVDs

  • Create your own rituals - you are sacrament makers

  • Create a prayerful environment, candles, flowers, prayer shawl…

  • Use the articles in the “Gather” magazine (or another source) for discussion topics
