Office Move
THANK YOU to all the wonderful volunteers who helped pack and move the pastors and staff from the administration building over the past week.  You are a blessing to us and we are grateful to you.  You made this move go smoothly!  THANK YOU!!!

July Gratitude Gift is Dysart Community Center
The mission of this 501(c)(3) organization is to provide educational and developmental opportunities for low-income children and adults in our local communities. Today the center is the only place in the entire West Valley that provides one-on-one ESL (English as a Second Language) and GED (General Educational Development) programming to low-income families at low or no cost. The center also offers after-school and summer programs for youth ages 5-17 for only $1 per day. The center has free food distribution on the first Saturday of each month. It partners with St. Mary’s Food Bank.

Farewell to Intern Kathleen Lotz
Goodbye and Good Luck to Kathleen! Please join us on Sunday, August 26 at Fellowship Hour as we say farewell to Kathleen, Josh and Oliver. If you wish to bless her with a love gift, envelopes are available on the Narthex counters or mark Kathleen “love gift” on your check. The gift will be given to Kathleen on her last weekend with us.

Priscilla Shirer Event
The Wednesday morning Women's Bible Study has used study guides on "Gideon" and "The Armor of God” prepared by Priscilla Shirer. On October 13 she will be at Grand Canyon University in Glendale for a one-day live event. Group tickets are $59.00 per person (a savings of $20.00 off the regular price of $79.00). If you would like to join a group from LOL going to this event, reservations can be made in the church office by July 16 with a check payable to Lord of Life. A huge thank you to Lord of Life congregation and the spectacular staff! What a wonderful retirement celebration. I received so many heartfelt notes and cards that have truly touched my soul. My time at Lord of Life was a blessing to my family and myself. We look forward to being regular congregation members and have the time to enjoy all that Lord of Life has to offer. -Marsha

Last Weekend to Sign Up for the Heat Respite Program! 
As part of our community outreach, Lord of Life has the opportunity to provide lunches for the Heat Respite Program at Grace Lutheran Church in Phoenix. This year we will make sandwiches Tuesday through Friday, July 17 - 20 and July 31 - August 3. We’ll start promptly at 8:30 am in the Social Hall kitchen. It takes about an hour to an hour and a half for set up, assembly and clean up. The lunches will then be delivered to Grace Lutheran Church. We will need 12 - 20 volunteers per day. We are short on volunteers, especially this coming week.  Please sign up or call Sheila ASAP.Thank you to all who participate!

Foodbank Donations
Reminder that we are collecting non-perishable food items every week. Place your donations in the grocery cart in the Narthex.

Snacks for the Heat Respite Program
We are also collecting packaged snacks for the Heat Respite Program at Grace Lutheran Church. Please drop them in the donation bin in the Social Hall.

From the Parish Nurse:

¨ Summer Strollers - Every Friday at 10:00 am we carpool from the church to Arrowhead Mall where we will walk the perimeter for one hour then meet in the food court for a light lunch. This is a great way to socialize and exercise during the HOT months.

¨ Second Annual Caregiver Connect Event: August 24, 8:00 am - 1:00 pm
The Benevilla Caregiver Connect is a free event hosted at Lord of Life. Enjoy a complimentary breakfast courtesy of Birt’s Bistro, listen to expert speakers and presentations, visit with community and senior care vendors and connect with others to gain expert guidance, valuable information and in-person advice for support on the caregiver journey. Registration is required, please call 623-584-4999.

 

Transportation to Worship Services and other Lord of Life Events
Call 602-200-2000 to schedule rides with Discount Cab Company. Riders will provide one of the following codes when calling for a reservation: Cab - Lord of Life Lutheran Church #2840 or Wheelchair - Lord of Life Lutheran Church Wheelchair #2840W. Give your home address and whether you are going to or coming from Lord of Life, the time you need to be picked up and the number of passengers (up to 4). You can also schedule a return trip if needed. There is no charge to the rider.

 

July “Brown Bag Lunch” Film Series
Join us Thursday afternoons in July for an interesting film starting at 12:30 pm in the Social Hall. Feel free to bring your lunch, snacks, friends, neighbors and even lawn chairs for a pleasant afternoon. Free popcorn and iced tea will be provided.

 

July 19 –Collateral Beauty” starring Will Smith, Edward Norton, Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, Keira Knightley, Michael Peña, Naomie Harris and Jacob Latimore. This film follows a man who copes with his daughter's death by writing letters to time, death and love.

July 26 – The Visitor” starring Richard Jenkins, Haaz Sleiman and Danai Gurira. A college professor travels to New York City to attend a conference and when he arrives at his apartment he finds Tarek Khalil, a Syrian musician, and Zainab, a Senegalese street vendor, living there. He befriends them and becomes involved in their lives.

Quilting Needs
Gently used sheets, any size, full or fitted, any color, plain or patterned are desperately needed by the quilters to be used as backing for our quilts. Please put your donations in the quilting room (north end of Social Hall) or contact Jan Yetter (janyetter@cox.net.  Thanks in advance for any donations.
